Working with youth
Young people are craving skills to help them navigate the discomfort of getting older. Unfortunately, schools do not have, nor offer curriculum to teach these skills at the urgency and at the level that young people need them. This is where personal coaching comes in. When young people work with a life coach, they gain an opportunity to develop their inner-self and acquire tools that they need to navigate change or deal with difficulties in their lives. It isn't about erasing conflict. It is about creating peace in oneself that will spill into the home, relationships, and school & work.
Why does this matter?
We are growing adults. We’re growing contributors to society. We want them to have a sense of purpose and value, and we want them to be compassionate and happy so they can take on the challenges and changes that the world will undoubtedly reveal to them. Challenges and change require creativity, curiosity, and the ability to get really calm. Coaching seeds and strengthens these characteristics.
What does a coaching session look like?
Coaching is like having a personal trainer for your mind. We start with current challenges, we don’t spend time in the past, that’s for therapy. Rather, coaching sessions focus on present conditions and thought patterns, provide new insights and tools, and anchor new awareness into practice. Results are immediate.
Example issues to bring to a personal youth coach:
I don’t have any real friends.
I’m not as good as…
I’m stuck, I don’t know what I want to do.
I feel like I have to constantly lie to my parents.
I don’t really trust anyone.
I don’t have any clear focus.
I want to figure out who I am and why I matter.
I don’t know what I’m supposed to do with my life.
I’m nervous and a little scared about going off to college.
Working with a coach can be incredibly rewarding. It’s goal oriented, focused, and deeply personal.
